"Ironing Board" / One night performance

dulcinea independent art space hosted a performance called "Ironing Board" on the 30th of June. This one night performance aimed at exploring various facets of power through the use of iron and police club.

The artists embodied the physical, visual and auditory narratives triggered by the resemblance between an iron and a police club. And they asked: When do our everyday rituals lose their innocence? When does an iron become threatening?

John Cook, Orhan Cem Çetin and Öykü Potuoğlu have collaborated on the "The Mob" for the ODTU Contemporary Dance Platform in 1999. This collaboration has stirred the desired conceptual debates which in the end defined them as a "performance team". Their common "language" embodied the dialogue between conceptual, physical and interdisciplinary explorations.

John Cook is an artist, a lecturer who has strengthened his 25 years of dance background with through dance history research. Besides choreographing many pieces, Cook has been focusing more on the conceptual side of physical narratives lately.

Orhan Cem Çetin, born in 1960, is a photographer living in Istanbul. With a rich background full of exhibitions and performance, Çetin also writes regularly for magazines and web sites. The artist focuses more on the conceptual and interdisciplinary dimension of photography rather than its aesthetics.

Having specialized in theatre anthropology, Öykü Potuoğlu is a performer who also writes for various magazines and newspapers. Potuoğlu, mainly focuses on physical and cultural risk in performance art. Her solos, which have explored the conceptual aspect of physicality, have slowly given way to collaborations.

Figen Evren is an actress and a performance artist who has worked extensively in amateur and professional theatre companies, have collaborated with film makers, besides specializing in dubbing.
