Street Mashallah/ Lorentino
(installation)
12.7.1999> 8.8.1999

The French artist, Lorentino (Laurent Vall) was invited to İstanbul by Dulcinea, to stay during the summer of 1997 and create work about the city. Lorentino who started his work in an old, empty building in the middle of Beyoğlu, developed in, a short time, the work his exhibition Street Mashallah consisted of, basing it on İstanbul and the street.

In his exhibition which takes the street life as the projection of the society, Lorentino studies with an analytical view the adventure of a person starting with birth, through concepts such as identity, personality, status, self-defence and camouflage.

In this exhibition, the artist used techniques parallel to the cosmopolitan structure of the street life. The sum of his techniques which bring together materials such as projection, digital prints, evil-eye beads, clay, photography, gasoline, thinner and sea water should be viewed as a simple and straight forward reflection of observing the city, rather than as his criticism of the streets of İstanbul.
