Pace in Pieces

D Worth catching during its last nine days is this exhibition of (in total) 68 films, a joint initiative of Dulcinea and Bilgi University, which takes up the theme of 'Pace in Pieces' features both a good dose of classics - like Alfred Hitchcock's 'Vertigo', Ridley Scoott's 'Blade Runner' and Kurosawa's 'High and Low' - and a fair representation of cinema from around the world. What makes it all the more interesting is that by substituting the movie theatre for the art gallery, the viewer is forced to watch with new eyes. This, by association, forces an evaluation of viewing habits. It also raises the question of how the cinematıc work would have differed had it been destined for the art gallery rather than the multiplex. All movies are shown in their original version and grouped thematically under headlines like 'mirror images, quest for identity', 'micro intimacy, emotional rhythms' and 'victory, seizing the light'. A rare challenge and one to rise to.
