Kriz: Via vaia / Hüseyin B. Alptekin
Multi media installation
9.4.1999 > 17.5.1999

Hüseyin Alptekin who has participated in many solo and group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad, between 1990-1999, was invited to the 4th İstanbul Biennial in 1995 and to the 24th Sao Paulo Biennial in 1998. His work has been displayed in many exhibitions in countries such as Holland, Hungary, USA, Austria, Italy, Brazil, Bulgaria and Germany. He has also participated in many seminars, lectures and workshops related to plastic art and design held in Turkey and abroad.

For this exhibition in Dulcinea he brought up discussions on the symbolic and metaphorical meaning of popular mythologies incorporated in the lives of the people of our day with a visual approach. Dealing with the belief and expression systems the contemporary people of the metropolis form, he is using the self-created myths within circulations of the society and the media. Hüseyin B. Alptekin comments that the objects and social situations which form the popular mythologies (yesterday Prozac, today Viagra, depression, oppression…) stay as current issues using the impressions they create with the discourses they contain and their images which they constantly recreate. He proposes a capturing and criticism of these images and the contexts they point out in an aesthetical and plastic attitude. Through this, the meanings of these objects of popular myths and the issues they point out with their own images can be explored which will provide the opportunity of decoding the functioning of the system they support.

During this exhibition H.B.A invited artists working with different techniques (music, video, performance) and aesthetical approaches to participate in. He also presented the audience fragments of his life and experiences he had within the context of the exhibition, during the one and a half-month period of the exhibition, taking it as 'work in progress'.
