Rebecca Lazier

Rebecca Lazier is a dancer, choreographer and teacher who has moved to İstanbul to teach at the Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory, Modern Dance Department.

Lazier, who has brought her broad experiences along with her modern dance background to Turkey, is teaching contact improvisation, composition techniques and history of genre, along with modern dance techniques. For the first time in the history of modern dance in Turkey, the students are being given the opportunity to work with a foreign teacher for an extended period. This new energy is bringing the quality of the MS Modern Dance Program to a new level. Rebecca has created 5 new pieces which she has performed with other dancers in Ankara, İzmir, Bursa and İstanbul. Two of these choreographies were also displayed in New York and Montreal during last fall.

Lazier graduated from the Julliard School in 1990 and travelled around the USA performing with many different choreographers. Her choreographies were used in TV documentaries as well as American theater productions. She has taught at schools such as UCLA, Wesleyen university, The Hartt School, The Hartford Ballet and Trinity College and did special workshops at the Julliard School and Columbia Teacher's College. In the 8 month period she has spent in İstanbul, Lazier has created 6 new pieces, performed in 7 different cities including, Siirt, Urfa and Batman, 573 e-mail messages and given over 100 lessons.
