Rebecca Lazier is telling a story

Rebecca Lazier is a dancer, choreographer and teacher who has moved to İstanbul to teach at the Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory, Modern Dance Department.

Lazier graduated from the Julliard School in 1990 and travelled around the USA performing with many different choreographers. Her choreographies were used in TV documentaries as well as American theater productions. She has taught at schools such as UCLA, Wesleyen university, The Hartt School, The Hartford Ballet and Trinity College and did special workshops at the Julliard School and Columbia Teacher's College.

In the 8 month period she has spent in İstanbul, Lazier has created 6 new pieces, performed in 7 different cities including, Siirt, Urfa and Batman. During the performance at Dulcinea, the artist will reflect, through solo dance, the experiences she has had in Turkey. For Lazier's performance, 'Stories', the basement floor of Dulcinea will be turned into a show-park.


In this performance, Rebecca Lazier will reflect the experience of being in Turkey with her solo dance which she will perform sometimes on a ladder or a bungie cord and sometimes barefoot, bringing together the stories of a new country and new people. The performance will also combine eclectic live music and some visual images (such as carpets) from Lazier's journey to South Eastern Anatolia.

In this performance which made up of dance, music and projections, the music used in the pieces called 'Wing Space' and 'Yaren' are composed by Mehmet Behçet Ateş. Lazier who is dealing with themes such as loss, discovery, rebirth, adventure and balance, invited some dancers from Ankara and İstanbul to participate in this performance. The performance which will begin with the piece, 'The Balancing Act', displaying the attempt to learn Turkish while trying to keep in balance on three ladders and continue towards a surprising ending full of dance and music, with the participation of Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory students.
