Aydın Teker |

Aydın Teker graduated from the Upper Division of Ballet Dancing program of Ankara Devlet Konservatuarı in 1973. After dancing for a while with Ankara Devlet Opera and Ballet, she achieved a scholarship from the Ministry of Education and went first to England and then to USA. After studying at the Sunny College At Purchase with the Upper Division Special Student status for a year, she continued her dance and choreography studies in NYU where she received her Bachelor and Master degrees. The artist has danced with Kazuko Hirabayashi Dance Theater, Marcus Schulkind Dance Company and New Haven Dance Repertory Company. On February 14th, 1980, her first piece was displayed in MORE, New York. Since then, Aydın Teker has continuously been creating choreographies. Her pieces have been performed all around Turkey and in many foreign countries including, USA, Belgium, Poland, Scotland,and Denmark. Some of her choreographies have been included in the repertoire of Ankara and İstanbul State Opera and Ballet. Her piece, I.D. commissioned by the American Dance Festival was performed in June 1993, at ADF. The same year she went to New York for a year with the Fulbright Scholarship for Research and she continued her choreographic work while researching the latest progressions on somatic theories. After returning to Turkey, Teker participated in many events including: "db-ll-bass", Royal Festival Hall - Purcell Room, London "Glass in - Glass out", site specific, Royal Festival Hall, London XampLE-Interdisciplinary Art, Habitat, Assos performance Arts Festival, Copenhagen East Bridge Festival, 1.International Student Triennial, 2nd Performance Days and the Third Generation of the Republic Events of Culture and Art. Aydın Teker is continuing her work in Mimar Sinan University as the Dean of Modern Dance. |
